Estimated recovered revenue / month
2,100
About 25,200 a year at a 5.0% recovery rate.
Estimate only: checkouts × abandonment rate × recovery rate × average order value.
How the estimate works
The calculator multiplies four numbers — nothing hidden:
- Abandoned checkouts = checkouts started × abandonment rate.
- Recovered orders = abandoned checkouts × recovery rate.
- Recovered revenue = recovered orders × average order value.
The abandonment rate default of 70% reflects the Baymard Institute's long-running average of published studies. The recovery rate is the uncertain part: it depends on how many shoppers left contact details and agreed to marketing, how quickly and how often you remind them, your products and prices, and whether you offer an incentive. Treat the result as a way to size the opportunity, and measure your real recovery once reminders are running.
Ways to recover more checkouts
- Send the first reminder within a few hours while the shopper still remembers the cart.
- Follow up once or twice, not every day — and stop the moment they buy.
- Add a second channel for shoppers who opted in to SMS or WhatsApp.
- Collect consent at checkout — the Shopify checkout's email and SMS marketing boxes.
- Save discounts for the last reminder, and make them single-use.
Trisend's ready-made abandoned cart flow starts about an hour after a checkout, stops as soon as the shopper orders and shows the revenue it earned. Read how abandoned cart recovery works.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my number of checkouts?
In Shopify admin, the Analytics reports show sessions that reached checkout and completed orders; Orders → Abandoned checkouts lists the ones that weren't completed. Use a typical recent month.
What recovery rate should I use?
It varies a lot by store, product, price and how many shoppers you can actually contact. The default of 5% is a deliberately cautious assumption; try a few values between about 5% and 10% to see a range rather than a single number.
Why can't reminders reach every abandoned checkout?
Only shoppers who typed an email or phone number before leaving can be contacted, and marketing reminders should only go to people who agreed to receive them. Trisend checks consent for each channel before every message.
Is this a guarantee of results?
No. It's simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter — a way to size the opportunity, not a prediction.
