Why confirm COD orders
Cash on delivery is how many shoppers in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America prefer to pay. It also brings orders that never get paid: fake names, wrong numbers, or buyers who changed their mind. Each one costs you the shipping, the courier fee and the return.
A quick check before you ship stops most of them. WhatsApp is where those customers already are, and a message with two buttons is easier to answer than a phone call. Trisend sends it automatically and puts the answer on the order.
How it works
- A cash-on-delivery order comes inShopify sends the order to Trisend; the COD confirmation flow only starts for COD payment methods.
- The customer gets a WhatsApp message“Thanks for your order #1042 … please tap Confirm so we can ship it, or Cancel if you didn't place this order” — with Confirm order / Cancel order buttons.
- They tap a buttonTrisend tags the order “COD confirmed” or “COD cancelled”, logs it, and replies with a short thank-you or “we won't ship it”.
- You ship the confirmed onesFilter your orders by the tag in Shopify, or use it in a Shopify Flow.
What Trisend does for you
Set it up
- Install Trisend and choose Growth or higherInstall from the Shopify App Store; the plan is billed on your Shopify invoice.
- Connect WhatsAppIntegrations → WhatsApp, then Meta's guided sign-up with your own WhatsApp Business account.
- Create the “WhatsApp COD confirmation” automationAutomations → New → WhatsApp COD confirmation. Trisend submits its template to Meta for you.
- Switch it on after Meta approvesApproval often takes minutes, sometimes longer. The flow can't go live with a template that's still waiting.
- Collect WhatsApp opt-insTurn on the WhatsApp box in your popup or back-in-stock form, or let customers send JOIN to your number.
Trisend never cancels an order on its own. A “COD cancelled” tag tells you not to ship it; you cancel or refund in Shopify as usual.
Frequently asked questions
Which orders get the COD confirmation message?
Only cash-on-delivery orders. Trisend reads the order's payment method (Shopify's “Cash on Delivery (COD)” and similar COD gateways), so prepaid orders never get it.
What happens when the customer taps Confirm or Cancel?
Trisend adds a tag to the Shopify order — “COD confirmed” or “COD cancelled” — logs it in your Activity feed (a cancel shows as a warning) and replies with a short thank-you or “we won't ship it”. Only the first answer counts.
Does Trisend cancel the order for me?
No. Trisend tags the order and tells you; you decide whether to cancel it in Shopify. That keeps you in control of refunds, stock and edge cases.
Will customers also get a normal order confirmation?
Not if you use Trisend's ready-made WhatsApp order confirmation flow: it is set to paid orders only, so a COD buyer gets just the Confirm / Cancel message.
Does the customer need to opt in to WhatsApp?
Yes. Meta requires a WhatsApp opt-in for every business message, order updates included. Trisend only sends it to customers whose WhatsApp consent is recorded — from a popup or back-in-stock WhatsApp box, a JOIN message to your number, or a CSV consent column.
Which plan do I need?
WhatsApp is on the Growth plan and up (from $79/month), with your own WhatsApp Business account connected.
